My name is Leland Ness. I started researching military tactical organization of the 20th Century back in the late 1960s at the National Archives in Washington, DC.
I have continued this, mostly on, but some off, since then via many archival visits in the US and Europe, by imposing on fellow enthusiasts, and through mail and email requests.
In most cases the research was completed several years ago, but the correlating and writing are ongoing.
In three cases the results have already been published as books: I co-authored The Red Army Handbook (Sutton, 1998) with Steve Zaloga, and wrote Rikugun: Guide to Japanese Ground Forces 1937-1945 (2 vols) (Helion, 2014) and Kangzhan: Guide to Chinese Ground Forces 1937-1945 (Helion, 2016). Those three will not be covered here.
For right now this is just a way to get my documents out there. Go to the Tactical Organization page tab at the top for the results, which I will be adding to. I will add a blog/comments section when my web confidence improves and time becomes available.
